Description

This Easy Apple Crisp with Oats is a warm, buttery, and crispy dessert that’s perfect for cozy autumn nights, Thanksgiving dinners, or whenever you crave comfort food. With tender spiced apples under a golden oat topping, it’s easier than pie yet just as satisfying. The topping bakes into a crunchy, buttery crumble that pairs beautifully with the soft, caramelized apples beneath. Serve it warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for a dessert that feels both homey and indulgent.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Apple Filling:

  • 6 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg

  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour

For the Crisp Topping:

  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly butter or grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

  • In a bowl, toss apples with lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour. Spread evenly in dish.

  • In another bowl, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.

  • Cut in cold butter with a fork or pastry cutter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  • Sprinkle topping evenly over apples.

  • Bake 35–40 minutes, or until topping is golden brown and filling is bubbling.

  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.

Notes

Tart apples like Granny Smith balance the sweetness best.

Add chopped pecans or walnuts for crunch.

Substitute gluten-free flour and oats for a gluten-free dessert.
